Where does the name 'Third pick' come from?

It's mostly a fun fact. One of the leaders I admired growing up, Michael Jordan, was the third pick in the NBA draft. I was reminded of this while watching the documentary entitled, "The Last Dance" about the Chicago Bulls championship seasons in the National Basketball Association.

If you don't know basketball, with the impact he made on and off the basketball court, some might expect to have been picked first as the top prospect out college. His determination inspired me to do use the name 'third pick. I encourage others to use the same motivation as he showed when attempting to develop your own skills.
